Just another weird moment...

Sometimes life throws weird awkward situations just to see us squirm. Moments when you have no idea what to do!  Whether doing something would make you seem stupid or not doing something would end up making you look cold.
I got a small curve ball this morning. It happened while I was on a rickshaw on my way to work. Now usually I am on the move at a time when most of my colleagues have reached the office. The fact that I live not too far off from my office building helps me shirk off the urgency of leaving early... Hence I reach more or less dot @ 10. Anyhow as I said my life was getting too bored and thought it the apt time of throwing me into an uncomfortable situation.

So on my way I see a colleague of mine walking down to the office (a building still about a kilometer away from where we crossed paths). To make matters worse it was kind of hot and humid today. So ye here I was in a rickshaw almost reaching my destination.
And next to me a colleague walking with a small trolley suitcase walking down the same road towards the same destination. And all I got was a split second to decide. Should I halt my rickshaw and offer him to join me? But would it look silly since a rickshaw is small
And he is just someone I know by face? Then again it is hot and we are going the same way. But he showed no interest in joining in just smiled and kept walking. But maybe he didn’t want to sound needy, I would’ve done the same, but I would have also hoped the guy in the rickshaw would offer me a ride.

Then again there was this gender issue. I mean I don't even nod at him and he doesn't nod at me at the office, plus he is slightly senior. If I had offered him a ride would he have felt offended or obliged to take my offer. I mean if he did not want to walk he could have taken a rickshaw himself, there were plenty around.

So maybe he did want to walk down after all.

Phew. By this time I bet you can imagine how far my rickshaw went ahead, surprisingly the destination was still a bit further off. Then I forced myself to look back.
Things didn’t quite help went I suddenly remembered he had distributed chocolates to our team recently (a more decent form of sweet than Indian sweets, I always end up giving away those, never liked them)
SO anyways here I am still pondering over the fact that if I would have stopped would it have been better, or would he have said no and walked on thereby embarrassing both himself and me on a matter I should have just let be.

So is this all just a very bored superpower enjoying itself by making us squirm? Or should I just shut up now and not over think this...?

Sigh! Some questions we would never get any answer too: P

A thought and a counter-thought

I had an interesting discussion with my niece yesterday. Interesting coz, while chatting with her I stumbled upon a crazy thought. I don’t know if it is worth being called an idea so ‘thought’ it is.
We were chatting about the various career options available for kids her age and how it isn’t too difficult to earn money in a field which doesn’t seem work simply coz you enjoy doing it.
Well one thing led to another and she mentioned her fish dying a couple days back. And CLICK. It happened. I started it as a joke saying that she could be a specialist in treating fish. You know a fish specialist vet doc. And then this idea grew.

Think about it. Today no one has the time. Especially to keep dogs. People love them. They are true companions but they are also a handful and require constant care. So then people turn to fish.
So what if someone specializes in treating them. You think they would earn handsome sums?

Oh but it doesn’t end there. There is a counter argument to this line of thought. I was, a few seconds back, discussing this with my colleagues and they said nopes he wouldn’t really earn much coz people who keep fish usually don’t get emotionally attached to them and they easily replace them with more fish.

Anyways although as always I might have sounded disjointed somewhere while writing this I really would like to hear if this gets you even remotely interested to give an opinion. It’s been awhile since I posted something in my blog…so be nice :-P

Cheers!!

She-manners

I was browsing through the web for a story on good manners and stumbled upon this link…

http://www.elegantwoman.org/good-manners-for-children.html

the name of the site..well I kind of saw that much later…but being as I am I felt highly offended of the fact that on an average the pronoun ‘he’ is used to describe an unknown person. But here, the writer kept saying she… for example (this is for those who won’t bother to go through the link)

  • She should always be impeccably dressed, appropriate to the situation or place.
  • She washes her hands before she eats and after she uses the wash room.
  • She does not groom or style herself in public!
  • She keeps her legs together when sitting.
  • She leaves the bathroom as she found it.

Yes offensive isn’t it…but look closely you would find a reason for that. Nonetheless it seemed wrong..it took me back to the time when I read articles written in 1950’s across magazines such as Reader’s Digest which spoke about how a wife should conduct herself around people and her husband, in short it was an unofficial rulebook for women on how to keep her husband happy.

I know I am going of tangent and like I said the writer of the link I’ve pasted had a reason (psst..it is a website for women) yet maybe its my way of looking things..or it’s the years of grooming and believing that I as a woman or the female of the species has to fight against such instances to show that she isn’t any less. Or that she is equal to things.

In short, I feel like I have been conditioned across the years to feel a need to get disgusted at any time when I read ‘she’ written with anything derogatory or linked with basic or specific rules. Yes I am rambling but I wonder if these made any sense to the lot of you…

Although I must say am glad to once more start typing…n this type I hope my blog doesn’t catch any more cobwebs…

M back in my parlour!! :D
